Over 275 Years of History in Historic Bethlehem

Have a Weekend Adventure

On Christmas Eve in 1741, David Nitschmann and Count Nicolaus von Zinzendorf, leading a small group of Moravians, founded the mission community of Bethlehem along the banks of the Monocacy Creek by the Lehigh River in the colony of Pennsylvania. An important center of colonial life, Bethlehem has stayed relevant into modern times and is currently the seventh largest city in Pennsylvania. We encourage you to walk through history during your stay. A few highlights we love:

A smithy at work...

A smithy at work...

1750 Smithy

"The building stood until the early 20th century when it was dismantled and converted into brownstone dwellings which were later demolished. In 2004, the Smithy was reconstructed of limestone taken from a local 1700s barn being torn down, and was built on the foundations of the original smithy, thanks to detailed records kept by the Moravians and stored in the Moravian Archives."

See the Smithy in person Friday through Sunday from 11 am - 4 pm!
